Here at Ferndown Forest Golf Course we run a full calendar of Competitions and Fixtures.  We have events for all categories of members and we play in many local competitions against local Clubs.  We put entry forms and information about upcoming events on the Club noticeboard and in the email newsletters.

Each competition has an entry fee. These are payable on the day of the event in the pro shop. For Club Competitions from the 1st January 2025 this will be £5 which will include the below mentioned ‘2’s` sweep. This is payable via card or cash in the pro shop. Seniors and Ladies events have different entry fees.

2’s Sweep: In addition to the entry fees there is a £1 entry for the 2’s sweep. This money is shared between every entrant that achieves a 2 on a hole. If a player achieves more than one 2 they receive the additional share of the pot. If a hole in 1 is achieved in the competition, the player receives all of the 2’s sweep money.

Prizes: The Club Committee retains 25% off entry fees to go towards the members fund for trophies, engraving, events etc. The remaining 75% is distributed to the top 2 or 3  players in each division depending on entry numbers. The money is placed on the golf shop account of the player to be spent in the golf shop on any goods or services. You may see a statement of your account at any point by asking in the golf shop.

Each Club Competition is split into 2 Divisions relating to the Handicaps of the players entered. The Handicapmaster software automatically balances the Divisions dependent on the amount of players in the competition and their handicaps. This is usually around 0-18 handicaps and 18-54 but this can vary on the aforementioned factors.

Stableford Competitions are run on the first weekend of each month and can be played on either a Fri/Sat or Sun (known as Alternate Day Competitions).

Medal Competitions are run on the third weekend of each month and are also run as alternate day competitions.

Tuesday League – this is a summer competition which is run over the front 9 holes of the course only, with your best 6 scores over the season to count. This is a very popular competition and a great way

to play a quick round of competitive golf either during the day or after work. It is a handicap counting competition. There is no entry fee for this competition.

Summer Barbecue Series - This is a series of fun competitions run by the club during the summer months which is also include a barbecue feast at the end. They are usually on a Wednesday evening with 1 event per month from May – September. These are very popular events and fill up quickly. Entries for these competitions are advertised by our newsletters and are managed by the Golf Shop. Entry fees vary.

Order of Merit - This is a competition run by the club throughout the summer season and points are awarded for placements in all the club competitions, including the '3 'majors; The Club Championships, The Ferndown Forest Trophy and the Gary Gunn Memorial .The winner is the one with the most points at the end of the season.  No entry fee is required but normal competition fees must be paid.

Matchplay Competitions – the club runs Pairs and Singles Matchplay competitions throughout the summer season. These are also advertised and entries taken through the golf shop. The entry fee is £5 per player per competition.

As well as the above the Club throughout the summer run other Ad Hoc competitions such as Par 3 only, mixed pairs and Opening and Closing Day Texas Scrambles.

Winter Season – (Nov to March) When the winter season kicks in and with us switching to winter mats we switch our competitions to non-handicap qualifying and usually play Stableford Competitions on the first and third weeks. We tend to mix it up a bit in winter with more fun competitions such as 3 clubs and a putter.

All club events are published on the fixture list and publicised and operated by the Golf Shop. The Competitions and results are published online, emailed to all competitors and also on the noticeboard in the driving range foyer.
